A workshop developed for BA Creative Media at DUNDALK Institute of Technology and MA Design Products, MA Fashion and MA Design for learning and teaching in Kingston University.
BRIEF
Cockroaches are believed to be among the hardiest insects on the planet. Some species are capable of remaining active for a month without food and are able to survive on limited resources like the glue from the back of postage stamps. Some can go without air for 45 minutes to survive poisonous CO2 levels, which will allow them to survive climate change!
They also secrete lots of wax that contains proteins useful for the other members of the community.
NASA is even looking at them to build the next generation of spacecraft for future Mars Exploration.
In this workshop we will explore disaster scenarios, genetic evolution under extreme constraints, space travel, and domestic life.
How will thinking as a cockroach actually help us to be able to get used to weightlessness and rethink our homes before we leave for Mars and have to deal daily with Zero G.
