Special feature on our north american theatrical release now live on LOMOGRAPHY website. Read the full interview here.
Part speculative cinema, part cosmic archive, and fully queer in spirit, Nelly Ben Hayoun-Stepanian's latest film Doppelgängers³ brings together science, storytelling, and the surreal to question what belonging looks like across galaxies and identities. Touring North American cinemas through Frameline Distribution and in collaboration with Lomography, the film becomes a portal: one that invites audiences to step into parallel worlds, analogue dreams, and the infinite possibilities of community.
We joined Nelly on her U.S. tour stop at San Francisco’s legendary Roxie Theater, where drag queens, doubles, and dazzling film lovers gathered under neon lights. Shooting on the playful LomoApparat, LomoReporter for the evening Lucas Lehman captured the night’s glitter, chaos, and cosmic camaraderie. Truly a celebration of imperfection, identity, and analogue resistance.
Below, Nelly shares how queerness, diaspora, and DIY culture shape her creative universe, and Lucas reflects on his first big Lomography gig, the joy of mistakes, and what it means to see beauty through the funhouse mirror of film.
