University of the Underground granted ANBI/Charity Status

November 2017, Amsterdam, NL

We are  thrilled to announce that the University of the Underground has been granted ANBI/Charity Status. The Dutch abbreviation ANBI means Algemeen Nut Beogende Instellingen (Institution Aimed at the Common Good) refers to charitable, religious, humanistic, cultural and scientific institutions whose mission and operations are deemed by the Tax Service overwhelmingly to serve the Common Good.  This designation is issued to organisations, which meet the required criteria and the Tax Office keeps an online searchable database of this information. ANBIs are entitled to certain tax advantages related to inheritance, gifts and donations, for example donateurs may deduct the value of their one time or periodic gift to an ANBI from their income tax.

University of the Underground was founded in January 2017 with the purpose to create a global engagement with society as a whole, with explicit focus on engineering situations, social dreaming, social action and ultimately the alteration of power within institutions, to provide the public with the tools to create power shifts. The University hopes  to achieve this by providing scholarships to students so that they can study a fully accredited MA  in the Design of Experiences and to provide a programme of Arts and Culture for the general public including live events, book clubs, podcast and master classes.
